Liverpool: Roger Davies

I couldn't help it. I got carried away! I bought an England t-shirt, downloaded the iPhone vuvuzela app and decorated my car with a 3 lions air freshner and flags. This time more than any other time I was convinced football is finally coming home. I bought an England cake with Capello and Stevie G iced onto the top for the first match and followed the tournament build up avidly on Radio 5 Live and the BBC website. England expects!

I love the power of expectation. It keeps us alive, wide eyed and upbeat. It gives us a bounce back factor, an ability to persevere and to throw ourselves into everything 100 percent! So many times we give up just before the breakthrough because we allow experience and set back to lower our expectation.

Instead we must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not with Red Bull and coffee but an infinite expectation of the dawn. After the night comes the light of a new day and with it come truckloads of God's goodness and mercy delivered straight to our doors. Even as an England fan with all the emotional turmoil that entails, you can be fuelled with great expectation. But even better is to put your hope in something or rather someone, who never disappoints. The God of heaven and earth promises to satisfy our hearts with good things, not withholding anything we need for life and godliness.

Whether or not England win the World Cup, God wants to raise your expectation levels this Summer. He wants to strip away the hard skin of cynicism and the pain of disappointment and give you a renewed sense of hope that the best days are ahead of you. So why not come down to one of our 11am Sunday morning 'At the Movies' services this month for an introduction to the God of all hope so that you overflow with hope and the expectation of a brighter future. We have stacks of other great events lined up this month designed with you in mind from the FootieFest 5-aside football tournament on Sunday July 11 to our Whizz Kids Schools Out Summer Party on Friday 23 July. Let's have a sizzling summer.

Believing your best is yet to come.
