Musings from our Congregation Pastors

Leeds: Chris Denham

It’s December already and Winter has come really early with more snow that you could shake your tic tacs at! And all I have to say about that is... “so much for Global Warming!!”

I know I should and I’ll probably get some Environmental Die-Hards deflating the tyres on my car for saying it... but Global Warming? Really?? Ok – no truthfully – I do fill a Recycle Bin every couple of weeks and I do make sure I turn things off around the house rather than burning a small continent’s worth of electricity. But that’s probably more because the normal bin’s full and the electric costs are ridiculous. I’m really not that sure when the last time was that I threw a used box of Shreddies in the green bin and thought – “there – that’ll help!”

I think the problem with most eco-friendly ideas is that we don’t see any difference. All I see is two wheelie bins outside my house instead of just one and a slightly darker house. But I’m sure somewhere in the world people are making a difference – I hope!

What I love about Christmas though is that you CAN do small things and you CAN see a big difference. For example you can buy a small but thoughtful present that does make a big difference to someone’s sense of self-worth – simply by appreciating them. You can clear your neighbours drive that does bless them. You could give a family in need a hamper full of Christmas goodies and make their Christmas the most memorable yet!

Keep recycling, keep saving energy, keep doing all that stuff – but more importantly this Christmas make a difference in someone’s life who is in your world. Christmas is always about the greatest gift that God ever gave us – the gift of His Son Jesus Christ. So let’s allow the generosity of the Father to seep through our lives to others.

We’ve got some great events happening this month. Join us on 12th December for our Carols by Candlelight at 6:00pm with a special Night of Honour Presentation. We’ll be joined by the High Sheriff, the Deputy Lord Mayor and Leeds United player, Ben Parker. Plus we have some great Christmas services with a special Christmas Eve service at 6:00pm and a more Christmassy than normal service on Sunday 26th – Boxing Day at 11am only.

Plus don’t forget in the New Year we’ll be moving into our brand new auditorium so 2011 is going to be the best yet at Hope City Leeds.

Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year

Chris
