I was sat with my wife in a coffee shop recently, for a late birthday lunch date and we were enjoying a really relaxing moment together. Others were in the coffee shop too, chatting away about their business with the gentle clink of glasses being cleared away, more drinks being served and the constant but friendly ‘hum’ of the AC fan above us… It was lovely…but then the lights went out! Grrr, another power cut.

A strange thing has happened to me recently. For years the geekyness within me has ruled and dictated the things I enjoy, watch and do. Space Treking Alien War style tv and films would be the first picked off the shelf in Blockbusters and anything that talked about the latest technological breakthrough would be the choice read. Lately though, I’ve found the movements of a small white ball being kicked around by 22 men to have started to put a chink in my neat star trek uniform! I blame it on the lodger!

I couldn't help it. I got carried away! I bought an England t-shirt, downloaded the iPhone vuvuzela app and decorated my car with a 3 lions air freshner and flags. This time more than any other time I was convinced football is finally coming home. I bought an England cake with Capello and Stevie G iced onto the top for the first match and followed the tournament build up avidly on Radio 5 Live and the BBC website. England expects!

If you haven’t noticed England has been in the grip of world cup fever! Everywhere you looked during June - the St George’s cross flag was everywhere from cars to shops and houses to clothing. People were obsessed with the flag! We were unified with one common hope of wining the World Cup!

The summer of 2010 is well and truly upon us! Sunshine, long evenings and that summer vibe that puts a smile on everyone's face has finally arrived! There's no time like summer time. With it hotting up in Birmingham we also plan to turn up the temperature in Church. 2010 has been brilliant so far but we still believe the best is yet to come!
