What They're Saying About Sheffield's Night of Honour '08
Every Year Hope City Enterprise puts on Sheffield's Night of Honour to celebrate the unsung heroes of the city of Sheffield. The night was presented by Louise Davies with celebrities including Uriah Rennie. 1500 people united together at Pond's Forge International Sports Centre for this incredible evening. This is what they have to say:
WOW! I just wanted to say "thank you" for an amazing evening on Sunday. We had a fabulous time which will remain in our memories for a long time! The whole evening was great - the reception, the ceremony, the entertainment - such a lot of effort, hard work and passion which clearly shone through. Can't wait for next year's evernt. We'll be there, with I suspect the hundreds we've told so much about it!
Andy Hanselman, Business Consultant
Just a short note to say thank you for another excellent evenings entertainment and also the opportunity for us to say well done to the unsung heroes of Sheffield. It was another brilliant night of entertainment and I toroughly enjoyed the whole evening. Please pass on my best wishes to all those concerned for the wonderful and caring way they looked after us.
Uriah Rennie, Top Football Referee
Thank you for such a splendid occasion at Ponds Forge on Sunday Night. The whole night was done professionally and thoughtfully and I was very encouraged by it's impact. You of course, were brilliant as were all of the other participants. Thank you for committing yourselves to such a generous and affirming event in Sheffield.
Rt Revd Cyril Ashton, Bishop of Doncaster
Thank you for a wonderful evening. It was good to be able to attend and present and award at what has turned into Sheffield's very own wondeful awards evening. As always it was superbly organised, and I very much enjoyed the entertainment laid on be the talented musicians and dancers representing not only HOpe CIty CHurch but drawn from youth groups accross the City.
Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes, South Yorkshire Police
What they have said about previous Sheffield Night of Honour Ceremonies...
“How annoying! Just when you think you have seen everything and know everything, along comes something which makes you realise you have not seen everything and certainly don’t know everything. Last night was like that. It was refreshing, full of fun but with a very serious and important mission which it achieved brilliantly. It’s a wonderful formula.”
Colonel Jonathan Hunt, The High Sheriff of South Yorkshire
“Another excellent evening yesterday. A pleasure to be at Sheffield’s Night of Honour recognising some of the people who do great things in and for Sheffield.”
Steve Bradley, Sheffield International Venues Ltd
"People need to be recognised for what they’ve achieved. It’s amazing that with all the adversities some of these people face, they still manage to continue. Some of these people hve been going for 20-30 years, leaving a legacy. I think the Night of Honour is a great way for people to see what’s going on out there in the community.”
Uriah Rennie, Top Football Referee
“Met the charismatic Senior Pastor Dave Gilpin and several of his colleagues among a celebrity packed reception for the city’s unsung heroes at Sheffield’s Night of Honour at Ponds Forge. Turns out Dave is from Brisbane but a Scouser by birth. Yet another person sent for us to sophisticate in Sheffield.”
Lord Mayor's Meanderings (out and about with Sheffield’s first citizen)
"Sheffield's Night of Honour 2007 was an inspirational event for all concerned and it was uplifting to be involved. It was good to see so many people sharing their gifts through music and dance and it was particularly good to see so many young people involved - our future is in good hands!"
Paul Makin, Deputy Executive Director for Children and Young People's Services, Sheffield City Council
"I was extremely fortunate to be invited I believe to the first event in 2003. From that impressive beginning the celebration has gone from strength to strength. The glam and the razzmatazz can certainly compete with the Oscars and the BAFTA'S of this world. What I really think is special about these awards is that lovely warm and wonderful feeling you get and the pride that shows on the faces of the people who are nominated."
Cllr Diane Leek, Sheffield City Council
"What a fantastic evening' - Full of enthusiasm and passion. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed The Night of Honour. The best thing about Sheffield is the people - 'The carers & sharers' Thank you."
Mark Aston, Chief Executive of Sheffield Eagles RLFC
